Uncover the hidden charms of Rabat and Mdina with a stay at My Travel House. Experience comfort, history, and a welcoming retreat in the heart of Malta.

If you’re looking for a quiet, centrally-located escape in Malta with all the essentials wrapped in a charming package, My Travel House in Rabat is your ticket. I had the pleasure of staying here for two nights with my mom during our recent trip, and I left with more than just fond memories of this quaint guesthouse—it became one of those hidden gems you can’t help but recommend to fellow travellers.

Nestled on the sleepy Triq S. Martin, it’s a stone’s throw away from the vibrant streets of Rabat and the medieval majesty of Mdina. Whether you’re in Malta for the history, food, or just a relaxing break, this spot offers a wonderfully simple, laid-back home base. You’ll want to book your stay here in no time!

Charm and Character in Every Corner at My Travel House

From the moment we walked in, My Travel House felt like we were stepping into a slice of Maltese history. The building itself is a beautiful blend of modern comforts and traditional Maltese architecture—complete with a spiral staircase that adds a dash of charm. I couldn’t help but imagine the stories those narrow steps could tell. The moment we settled in, we knew we had found a gem.

Our room? A perfect haven. Spacious and impeccably clean (it even had an air-conditioning unit for the hotter months), it was exactly what we needed after a long day of exploring. Waking up refreshed, we were ready to explore more of Rabat and beyond! And let’s talk about the bathroom: modern, spotless, and stocked with fluffy towels that were a true indulgence. I was also a huge fan of the gorgeous blue tiles throughout!

Centrally Located, Yet Blissfully Quiet

One of the best things about My Travel House is its location; it’s incredibly central, tucked just a minute’s stroll from Rabat’s main attractions. You’re only a five-minute walk from Mdina, the ‘Silent City,’ and the peaceful streets around the hotel offer a perfect balance. It’s close enough to everything you want to see, yet far enough from the noise that your stay feels like a restful retreat.

Rabat itself is brimming with charm—quaint cafés, delicious Maltese bakeries, and the sort of picturesque alleyways that make you fall in love with travelling all over again. My mom and I spent our days wandering the winding streets and our evenings enjoying dinner in one of the local restaurants, all of which were within walking distance.

Breakfast in Bed? Almost!

You won’t find breakfast waiting at your door, but you’ll get something even better—a delightful morning meal just a minute's walk away at a nearby restaurant, and a lovely addition to the hotel’s charm. My mom and I loved the delicious spread; the food was simple yet filling, with local favourites that filled us up perfectly for our day of adventures.

The staff at My Travel House also deserve a special shout-out here. From before we even arrived, they made sure everything was smooth—from arranging an early luggage drop-off to making sure we had all the details we needed for check-in. Communication was fantastic, and we felt genuinely welcomed throughout our stay.

The Sun Terrace: Malta’s Best-Kept Secret

I have to mention the rooftop terrace—a highlight of our stay. Malta is known for its breathtaking sunsets, and this rooftop is the perfect perch for enjoying them. My mom and I loved unwinding here with our morning coffee, soaking in the views of Rabat and the Maltese skyline. It’s the kind of spot that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a little secret, far away from the hustle and bustle below.

If you’re anything like me, a peaceful retreat with a good book and a cup of coffee is pure bliss—and the rooftop offered just that. Plus, it’s also ideal for a bit of post-exploration downtime before heading out for dinner.

Practical Perks and Exploring the Island

While My Travel House is an ideal base for exploring Rabat and Mdina, it’s also perfectly situated for venturing out across the island. We didn’t get the chance to visit the Dingli Cliffs this time, but I can see how this would be an ideal jumping-off point. If you’re into cycling, you’re in luck—there are plenty of opportunities to hop on a bike and explore the surrounding areas.

Getting around Malta from here is a breeze, too. Whether you’re taking a local bus or driving, the guesthouse is conveniently located near the main roads that take you to iconic spots like Valletta and the Blue Grotto. And the fact that the airport is just 8 kilometres (just under 5 miles) away means you can be off the plane and check in without a hitch. There’s also a paid airport shuttle service, which can be incredibly handy for returning to the airport after your stay.

Malta might be small, but My Travel House puts you in the perfect place to see it all without the hassle.

Why We’d Return

In all honesty, My Travel House won me over for more than just its location. It’s the kind of place that feels like a home away from home—without the hefty price tag. Comfortable beds, thoughtful service, and a lovely rooftop to unwind on? Yes, please! I can’t help but think this would be a great spot for couples, friends, or even solo travellers wanting to dive into Malta’s rich history.

If you’re planning a trip to Rabat, I can’t recommend My Travel House enough. From the charming town to the beautiful Mdina just a short walk away, there’s something magical about this corner of Malta. Whether you're there for a few days or longer, you’ll feel like a local in no time.

This place looks awesome! It sounds like it ticks all the boxes of what one would want from a “home base” when visiting from out of town.
