This is Why You Should Make Your Next Holiday a Trip to Malta

I *love* a well-made romper, and the Moxie Romper from @lawsofmotion has me obsessed (I’ve been raving about their clothes since I got an Alpha Dress from them back in 2020). First of all, being around 180cm tall (5’11”) with a long torso, finding a romper that fits is next to impossible. I’m constantly sizing up by two sizes and asking my poor grandmother to take in the waist, so that I can have the correct length—or, better yet, coming home with fabric and a pattern and asking her to help me make one custom, from scratch.

Because Laws of Motion makes everything exactly to your size, you can be sure that every piece of clothing ordered from them will fit you like a glove. This particular design features a deep V-neck, spirited shorts, and a seamless back zip, all made of machine-washable lightweight crepe.

Gorgeous, right? It was perfect for comfortably exploring Valletta and still looking chic enough to visit a Michelin-starred restaurant for lunch without having to run back to the hotel to change outfits.

Sforzesco Castle (Castello Sforzesco di Milano) was incredible to explore, and the ticket was only €5 to enter! Sculptures, paintings, stained glass, pottery…even old instruments. 🎻 The best part is that you can see all of this all while wandering through an old castle.

This is a medieval fortress in Milan, constructed during the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the site of an earlier 14th-century structure. 🏰 Over time, it was expanded and renovated, becoming one of the largest citadels in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries.

We recently had the most incredible day in beautiful Malta! 🇲🇹 There’s never a shortage of things to do in this small but exciting country.

We started the day with an olive oil tasting at Ta’ Xmun Olive Grove (@taxmunolivegrove) in Żebbuġ, where owner Charles shared his passion for growing and maintaining the beautiful trees and producing some of the world’s best olive oil. 🫒 This was followed by a tasting to fully appreciate it—and you can buy a bottle or two to take home!

While at Ta’ Xmun, we also took a pastizzi-making course with Michela of @a.pastizzi.experience, something I’ve wanted to do since I was small! Doing this with my mom was extra special, as my Maltese nana instilled our love of pastizzi. ♥️ Michela showed us everything—from perfect pastry dough to delicious pea or irkotta filling to baking them to golden perfection. I can’t recommend a cooking class in Malta enough! 👩🏻‍🍳

That evening, after a wardrobe change, we headed to Siġġiewi for the magical Three Palaces Festival (@festivals.mt) at Verdala Palace. 🎻 Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was a masterpiece I still think about. The orchestra was amazing, and the palace grounds took my breath away. From sculptures along the tree-lined driveway to the grand entryway to the detailed painted ceilings inside, it’s the kind of building I could spend hours admiring.

A short drive away, in Balzan, is the Michelin-starred Bahia (@bahiarestaurant). This was one of the best meals—and cocktails!—I’ve had in Malta, memorable from start to finish. 🍽️ The chic yet welcoming setting, knowledgeable staff, and their clear passion for the food made it an unforgettable experience.

Every moment in Malta felt like a perfect blend of tradition, art, and exceptional flavours. If you’re planning a visit, savour everything this island has to offer—you won’t be disappointed!

A couple of weeks ago, I spent an incredible evening wandering the cobblestone streets of Bergamo Alta and couldn’t resist returning in the daylight to soak in all its beauty.

Perched above the modern city, this medieval hilltop town is surrounded by 16th-century Venetian walls and offers some of the best views in Lombardia. From its rich history to stunning architecture (like the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore), this hidden gem stole my heart.

One of the highlights has been a little self-date to Pinacoteca di Brera (@pinacotecabrera), the beautiful art gallery that is home to so many gorgeous works of art (including Francesco Hayez’s “The Kiss,” 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 one of the most reproduced paintings from 19th century Italy).

While wandering a gallery is one of my all-time favourite things to do in total solitude, this marked the first time I did so *alone* in another country. That wasn’t lost on me while I walked through the various rooms and corridors, and I savoured it as much as I could.

Anyways, here are some of the small details that caught my eye and that sparked a desire to pull out my own paints and get creative once again. 🎨

Another evening, another sunset. 😌

The past two weeks, we’ve been frantically driving around Mar Tirreno’s coast any day the skyline seems remotely clear, desperately trying to get a photo of the sun setting in the mouth of Stromboli. 🌋 Today, it seemed like we might have had a chance, but then a big ol’ rain cloud came over and blocked the volcano “perfectly.” Sometimes, you just can’t get the perfect photo, and (I guess) that’s okay. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyways. We got some pictures of the gorgeous rain clouds and I was even able to pull out my camera for the first time this trip (that’s on me—I’ve been lazy) to capture the rough waves and pink sky. Eventually, I might even get around to editing them. 😉

It’s been quite the summer.

I didn’t post for the month of August because I’ve just been enjoying everything. Calabria, my family, my friends…the food, the beaches, the sunshine. It was a month of transition as I got (as much as I could) everything sorted to be here in Italy for over a year. I found that while I was still taking photos, it wasn’t as often as I usually do; I was—is it possible?—mostly just living in the moment.

But then there were times like this, where I was standing in Capo Vaticano overlooking the shoreline from above, and I felt the need to pull out my phone and take a photo. After all, I bought this new iPhone before I came here for the purpose of taking better pictures. 😅

Exploring Vibo Valentia’s rich history starts at the Norman-Hohenstaufen Castle! 🏰

Built around 1000 AD on the ancient site of Hipponion, this castle used materials from nearby Greek temples, but was damaged by an earthquake in 1783. Today, it houses a state museum filled with incredible artifacts. Wander through its halls, admire the ancient finds, and find a fashionable hottie to take a picture with (even if he’s just a statue). 😉

Built around 1000 AD on the ancient site of Hipponion, this castle used materials from nearby Greek temples, but was damaged by an earthquake in 1783. Today, it houses a state museum filled with incredible artifacts. Wander through its halls, admire the ancient finds, and find a fashionable hottie to take a picture with (even if he’s just a statue). 😉

Nestled in the rugged terrain of #Basilicata, Italy, lies a city steeped in history—a place where time seems to stand still, and every corner tells a story. Matera is the oldest city not just in Italy but in all of #Europe, positioning itself as a #UNESCOWorldHeritage city in addition to being 2019’s #EuropeanCapitalOfCulture. 🤗 Fun fact: with over 10,000 years of history, it’s also the third-oldest city in the world, behind Aleppo and Jericho.

It’s no surprise that this was one of the most recommended places I had been told to visit! 🥰

I’m always in my element when I’m surrounded by plants, especially tropical ones.🌵 Plus, baking in 30°C+ weather is always a nice added touch.

This plant here is a prickly pear (or “bajtar tax xewk” in Maltese), which can be found all over this small island country and even further north, in Sicily and mainland Southern Italy (where they call them “fichi d’India”). ☀️ When picking them from the cactus in late August, do so early in the morning when the little spikes are softest. Use thick gloves or tongs to rotate the red fruit and pluck it from the plant before soaking it in water for a while and then peeling off the skin carefully. They’re delicious, and something my Maltese grandmother always used to eat.

This weekend, I was back in one of my favourite places — Jasper National Park in the beautiful Albertan Canadian Rockies! 🏔️

The serene beauty of Pyramid Lake, a hidden gem nestled amidst the majestic landscapes of this park, are named after the striking pyramid-shaped peak that overlooks its tranquil waters. The pristine alpine lake offers a sanctuary for both nature enthusiasts and photographers alike and, as someone who has been there in different seasons, it’s stunning no matter when you visit. This was my first time visiting under snowfall ❄️ and it was surreal and magical!
